An Oldie But a Goodie.....Lilly Pulitzer!

Gals,

Fun fact….when I was first married to Bing, I was working at a job that I couldn't STAND.  I was DYING to quit and I wanted to work in fashion, but I had no idea where to begin.

So, how was I going to do this….??? I racked my brain, did some research and realized that there may be some potential with Lilly Pulitzer….here’s why.

1) The brand had recently been purchased by two nice guys from Philly who were just getting it off the ground. Surely they needed my help…..

2) I've worn Lilly Pulitzer my whole life, so I figured I had a pretty good sense of the brand.

3) I was living in Los Angeles, (slightly involved in Hollywood) and not one celebrity had ever been (recently) photographed in LP….hmmm…maybe there was something there?

4) Maybe I could figure out a way to help these guys get on the red carpet, in the movies, and on the TV. Seemed like the perfect job for me.!

It was then that I figured I'd just call them up and get myself a job! It worked!!

It was such a fun few years working (remotely) for Lilly.  I was meeting with costume designers from TV shows, agents representing big stars and hosting trunk shows all in hopes of getting the LP brand on the streets of LA. People loved it! We managed to sponsor an event (I can’t remember what it was ) and dress Andie McDowell, who was hosting that evening. It was pretty great.

I had SO much fun doing that dang job that I created for myself - hahaha - and it really helped to kickstart my career working with several designers. I may have started in retail at age 14, but my days at Lilly were what really got me going in fashion. I wish I had known back in 1991 to follow my INTERESTS vs following the random job offers in NYC that came my way. I try to tell my kids that today - get paid to do what you love.

Lilly Pulitzer’s motto is certainly not, “less is more”. The bright colors and whimsical prints are what make the brand so special. But, that motto is how I style Lilly. All you need is ONE piece and you’ve got a stand-out outfit.  You can be wearing a brown paper bag and look like a million bucks, as long as you have your little pop of Lilly too.

By the way…..LP is NEVER going anywhere.  It will always be chic and a classic that the most stylish women in the world love to wear.  You can make it as preppy or as “cool” as you want, depending on how you style it.  You’ve just gotta give it a chance.

Did I mention that the price is always right with Lilly Pulitzer? I don’t know how they do it, but they manage to offer shoes, jewelry, bags and clothes all at affordable prices. I love that.

Anyhow, thats the scoop. Happy Shopping!

This KEIR CAFTAN-STYLE DRESS/COVER-UP is SO chic for either daytime or night time. You could wear a MCKIM WEDGE SANDAL or these MCKIM FLAT SANDALS that they carry every season. I am obsessed with the WHITE ORCHID BRACELET because it looks like Oscar! The HAT is not from Lilly, but I just love the shape of it :)

How adorable is the KATALEYA RED DRESS? (or HERE ) I don’t usually recommend strapless dresses for a lady of a certain age….but this one was great because it didn’t squeeze me in the wrong places :). The KENDALL SANDAL is nice because it’s chunky but not TOO chunky. They didn’t have it when I was there, but if they had, I would have been buying it :). Love the UNTAMED HEARTS EARRING for Valentine’s Day, right? I could TOTALLY wear the HEARTBREAK HOOP EARRINGS or the HEART & SOLSTICE BRACELET . Love the Chanel-knock off DESSA BAG.

I own the BAL HARBOUR PANTS in another print and I LOVE them. I wear them on a night when I want to be cozy and cute at the same time :) The store was showing them with the SEA VIEW LINEN BUTTONDOWN which was a great color for the pants. The ISLAND HOPPING NECKLACE is a GREAT price as are the LEXY SUNGLASSES. I’ve never seen a cork bag like the SIRENA - it doesn’t look cheap whatsoever.

You know I’m not a model, obvi, but I’m certainly NOT a bathing suit model :). I chose the FARLEE ONE PIECE for the style AND the colors and the VIVINA for the cute belt! LOVE! Love the blue SEA VIEW COVER-UP and the light style of the LINLEY. Both great. The ABBI gladiator sandals are SOOOO cool with the little stones. Cool set of bracelets, the STIR IT UP are fun to wear with a bathing suit - super chic. Even MORE chic with a bathing suit is the SEA SEARCHING NECKLACE!
